Mrauk U
Mrauk-U,
the ancient city of
Rakhine Kingdom(15th
Century), is known
for its old temples
with wall paintings
of Indian cultural
influence. It is
reached by boat
along Kalatan River
from Sittwe(Akyab),
the capital of
Rakhine State. The
boat trip takes
about 5 hours. The
hightlights of Mrauk-U
are the massive
Shitthaungpaya a
curiously remarkable
temple with
countless Buddha
Images and relief's,
the fortress-like
temple
Htaukkan-thein noted
for the interesting
stone sculptures in
the vaulted
passages; an
octagonal temple
Andaw-thein with its
unique stone cavings
and flora designs;
Sakya-Man-Aung, a
tall attenuated
stupa; and
Archaeological
Museum. 8 km to the
north of Mrauk-U is
Wethali(Vesali);
another ancient
capital (8th to 10th
centuries A.D).
There is one more
ancient capital
called Dhanyawaddy
which is about 22 km
to the north of
Wethali. On going
upstream by boat for
2 hours to Chin
Hillbribe Village
one can visit in the
nearby places,
people with tattoo
on the faces.
Shitthaung
Pagoda
Shitthaung or
"temple of the
80,000 Buddhas"
located about half a
mile to the north of
the palace site was
built by one of the
most powerful kings
of the Mrauk-U
Dynasty, called by
the people,
Minbargyi. It is an
ancient temple, in
Mrauk Oo of northern
Rakhine state,
Myanmar.
Sakya-Man-Aung
Pagoda
Sakkyar Man Aung
Pagoda is located on
the east side of
Mrauk U. This pagoda
is known to be one
of the five most
revered "Mann" paya
of Mrauk U. King Sri
Suddhamma Raja built
the Sakkyar Man Aung
Pagoda in A.D 1693.
It is located in the
south of Yadanar Man
Aung Pagoda. This
Pagoda is known to
be one of the five
most revered pagodas
in Mrauk U. The five
revered "Man" payas
of Mrauk U are Lawka
Man Aung, Zeenat Man
Aung, Sakkya Man
Aung, Mingalar Man
Aung and Yadanar Man
Aung. In Myanmar
known as "Man Ngar
Par".
Sittwe
Sittway
is the capital of
Rahkhine State.
Rahkhine State is
situated in the
Western part of
Rahkhine Yoma
mountain range and
Bay of Bengal and
about 12,800 miles
long in distance.
The population is
about 2.6 millions.
The main economy
there is fishery.
Moreover, there are
several kinds of
famous production
can be found in
Sittway. Fish-paste,
dry fish and shrimp,
clothes are popular
products of that
region. When you
visit Sittway by
air, you will see
the Bay of Bengal
from and the
magnificent views of
the surroundings of
Sittway.
